How do you clean hairballs out of carpet?

Posted by: | Comments (4)

We have adjusted the food. We use the hairball remedy. We also try to catch it in newspapers as it happens.
But sometimes we miss one.
What’s the best way to clean the mess out of carpet?
What is this talk about a vacuume? Do you people own a cat? A hairball is a wet nasty mess.

My cat is long haired and frequently throws up huge hairballs, along with her food. Is there anything I can give her to prevent the hairballs from forming. I brush her regularly and already give her hairball remedy food.

She has been eating a little bit, and I have been making her drink. About a week ago I noticed she threw up a huge hairball, then she threw up a few more times within the next few days. She is on hartz hairball remedy now (for about 2 days) and hasnt thrown up today but is dry heaving a lot still. Is this normal for hairballs?

Once when my cat was still a tiny kitten, he vomitted up a hairball almost as long as he was! I reacted with surprise and also a bit of disgust- “ewwww!”, and I think the cat was equally terrified.

Ever since then, my cat refuses to allow hairballs out of his mouth. Every single time he gets one, he hacks it up and then quickly swallows it before it leaves his mouth.

Well, he’s been trying to hack one up for a couple of days now, but each time it reaches his throat I hear him swallow it back up again! He just won’t let it out, even though I can tell that it has come up in his throat and he is simply refusing to let it out.

This has happened at least 3 times a day over the last few days, and I can clearly hear that it is coming up and it would probably come out nicely if he would allow that to happen. It’s just that he is not letting it out and re-swallowing. Is there a way I can hold his head straight or something so he is forced to let it out?

BTW, various hairball remedies have not helped much. I don’t think it’s too big because I can hear that it is, in fact coming up. It’s just a matter of getting him to allow it to, umm, escape before he swallows it back.
One more detail: He is eating quite well. In fact, he eats immediately afterwards, (perhaps to help it go back down-gross)
position wise, he looks a lot more like he is having a hairball. This is the exact position I remember him being in when he hacked up that giant one as a kitten. He opens his mouth and sticks out his tongue and sort of gags repeatedly until something starts to come out and then he stops it.

I have 2 kittens and a cat. The kittens are supposed to eat the Iams Kitten and the cat the indoor weight and hairball care. The kittens refuse to eat their food and keep getting to the cats food. I have taken the cat and put her in a separate room to feed her and leave the kittens with their food and they don’t touch it. I left them for a whole day with their food, water and litter and they don’t eat it. As soon as I fill the cats food hey will run over and eat it. It’s a constant fight in my house. So now I want to know why they aren’t allowed to eat the hairball remedy kind? Is it because they wont be able to develope the ability to rid themselves naturally of the hairballs or is it possibly poisoning them?
I also wanted to add that I have offered them other kinds of kitten foods becuase I thought maybe it was just that brand hey didnt like.

What hairball remedy is best for cats?

Posted by: | Comments (9)

My cat’s been attempting to hack up a lung two-three times a day for about two, three minutes each time. Today she’s seemed really unhappy and has spent almost the entire day on my bed asleep, not playing even when I tempt her with the toys she usually likes. So I’m assuming she’s got a hairball stuck somewhere.
So I need to know what commerical hairball remedy is best. What have you had the most sucess getting your cat(s) to eat? What has been quickest, least messy, made them happiest, etc?
I’m trying to take care of this or at least try a remedy a see before taking her to the vet, since she’s newly adopted and I’d like to subject her to the least amount of trauma possible.
For all you self-righteous people who think that answering “brush your cat” is a remedy, I’ve only had her for three days. I’ve brushed her twice already even though she is a shorthair. Before that, she was at the shelter for a week or more. I can do nothing about that. I asked for a /remedy/ not a prevention.

Nutro hairball remedy catfood for my cat?

Posted by: | Comments (3)

I have a maine coon that I currently feed Science Diet hairball formula. He has the worst hairballs. The food helped at first but after about 6 months it stopped working as well. I have tried to incorporate some wet food into his diet to help him pass the hairballs but after trying almost every brand he will not eat wet food. (however he will lick all the juices from it). He loves tuna juice (as a rare special treat) so I tried to even disguise a little fish oil in it to help. He of course smelled it and looked at me like I was crazy. He can pretty much detect any oils or treatmenet disguised in his food. I have tried the hairball remedy at petsmart and it didn’t seem to help much and he fights me so much i usually end up wearing most of it. He also turns his nose up to hairball treats. I brush him everyday but he is an obsessive groomer. So my last resort is to try a different food. Has anyone had luck with Nutro? Plus, I keep hearing bad reviews on science diet.

Ferret lax =/= hairball remedy?

Posted by: | Comments (2)

I’m pretty sure ferret lax is NOT the same as hairball remedy (as the label reads it to be potentially hazardous if given regularly…), but when I search it up, ferret lax is the first thing to come up. I’ve read that you’re supposed to give your ferret one-half an inch of hairball remedy a few times a week an hour after a meal during non-shedding season… and a full inch each day during.

Are those things true? Would cat hairball remedy work just the same? Can you recommend some brands?

Thank you in advance!
