Big Dog! Help me control him! What to do?

By

I have a 200 pound Saint Bernard dog and I love him to death. Unfortunately, he is a lot stronger than me and I can’t walk him anymore because he gets out of control. I’m only 14 and so I can’t really control him by using all my strength. He has dragged me across streets, lawns, rocks and really painful surfaces to chase people and dogs. He is such a sweet dog though, and he would never hurt a fly on purpose. I need a trick or something to walk him and get him under control when he sees something he wants to chase. If i can’t figure out a way walk him and keep him under control, i won’t be able to walk him anymore. That’s not very fair to him. Please, Please, Please, Please help me if you can! I love hi to death!
we have one of those nice choke chains and he acts like he doesnt even notice it when i use all my weight to pull back on it.

There might be better ways, but I had to buy a choke chain (I only put on while walking). Anytime my dogs would start to pull me it would tighten on their necks then they would slow down. This only worked for one of my dogs though. The other one, anytime she pulled I would stop pull her back (hard) and say no. I have to do it occassionally to remind her but it is much easier to walk now. I have a Great Dane and I still haven’t figured out what to do with him.

Good Luck!

Give him the old testicle snip. That’ll show him who’s boss.

i know how that feels.( Im 13 and have 2 labradors)
choke collars work ok ( sounds mean.. but helps them learn)
short leashes help a little
scolding works with some dogs.(not all)
treats when they don’t run.
i haven’t found something that’s amazing yet. but little things help a bit.
