My cat seems to have something stuck in his thraot, possible hairball?

By

He is still breathing but it sounds funny, especially when he purrs. Sometimes when he tries to eat, he licks the food then gags and almost throws up. Someone suggested it might be a hairball. My cat has never thrown up his hair balls so is it possible his one is stuck and he wont let it come up? Any suggestions on what this might be or what i can do? He is an outdoor cat so he could have eaten anything, im hoping that its just a hairball. I dont have the money to take him to the vet, so any home remedy type advice would be greatly appreciated. Also he never seems to fully close his mouth, and when he goes to sleep, sometimes he wakes up like e is about to throw it up, but it seems as though he swallows it again. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I might try giving him water. It’s more than likely a hair ball. He should be fine.

Take your cat to a vet asap.

If you go to the pet-store, they have lots of remedies for hairballs, food, gravies, medicine… I would try that, for a few days and see what happens. But if it is a hair ball it should probably come out. But at the same time if this has been going on for awhile, I wouldn’t be to worries.

Worse case scenario, the hairball stuff doesn’t work and you need to take your cat to the vet. If you don’t’ have the money call your SPCA or Humane Society, and see if they could refer you to any vets that would either see your cat for free or at a discount.

go to walmart or your nearest pet supply store and buy some hairball medicine.then if that don’t work see the vet.

It would be best to take him to a vet because it’s not normal for him to keep his mouth open when he sleeps. If you REALLY can’t afford it and if it IS a hairball (hopefully it is) a little oil might help. Put some olive oil or cooking oil in his dish and let him lick it up. If he won’t eat it, try it on his paw.

Sounds very much like a hairball. You should get dry cat food for hair ball control. It works perfectly!
Anyway, you need to do something now.
I see in my cats that when they have a hair ball stuck, they go to the bathroom to drink running water from the shower, bathtub or sink. Especially my small one (7) is standing inside the bathtub reaching for the water to fall down. Then after drinking water he will try to get rid of the hairball. To help you should clap him a bit hard on the chest..
Also, if you by chance have a syringe in the house – without needle – put some water in this one and put the end of the syringe behind the back teeth and “flush” water down his throat. This also normally helps.
As the last resort, try to massage his chest and tummy, to activate the “throwing up” process. Play with him, so he gets very short in his breath. That should do it too. If not, I’m sorry but then you should go to the vet. I don’t think this will cost a lot of money to fix.

Try putting butter or margarine on his paw – lots. He’ll lick it off and it will hopefully dislodge. Otherwise there are cheap remedies at a pet store.

Hi- I gave an answer yesterday to a similar problem.
I spend thousands of dollars but the vets/hospital was still perplexed.
The biggest clue which helped me was a shot of pepcid in the emergency room.
I am not sure how you would go about this- vets probably have shots of pepcid?
The shot of pepcid worked a lot faster and better than the pill form which is what I had to start my other cat on. But- it did eventually work- prilosec combined with it worked better though.
I know that there are vets that donate their services perhaps someone can lead you to a website.

Also- another remedy that has helped my cats is Collidal Silver from Wild Oats. It is a natural antibiotic.
It also cured my sinusitis and tonsillitis when the prescriptions could not. My father who is an allergist is still amazed that I got rid of it without prescription antibiotics.
Maybe someone knows more about this substance than me.
