You could try to put a bit of olive oil on the paw as cats will usually lick anything off as they don’t like to leave anything on them, and there is now a special paste that you can buy that’s flavoured, and cats will lick it off their paws and it helps to pass the hairball the other end! you can either get it at the vet or buy it at a pet shop, i bought mine at the pet shop and i showed it to my vet and they told me it was the same ingredients as the one they sell, so was safe and very good quality.
if you’re cat’s anything like mine, he’ll hate having stuff on his paws and will fling it off rather than lick it. try hairball cat food, it worked well with my cats.
I currently use Temptations Hairball control/remedy kitty treats (I can’t remember which it’s called). It works, but I have to give my cat 10 treats everyday and if I forget for 2 days she’ll vomit. (FYI sliding the treats across the floor instead of just dropping them on the ground is great fun).
