Best carpet shampoo to clean dog stains?
ByMy two min pins aparently still need more training after a year to learn to ask how to go outside to go to the bathroom and have been going in the spare bedroom we have for storage and now we need a lot of cleaning to do.
What kind of carpet shampoo do you use to get rid of the stains and smell?
Thanks in advance ^_^

You can get carpet cleaner called “urine gone” to clean up the urine and it takes away the scent so thje dogs won’t keep going on the carpet.

Check with a pet store. They make organic based pet stain removers. Some have rug shampoos as well. Best bet is to rent a carpet shampooer and do it yourself because you’ll take the time to go over the stains until you are satisfied with the results.

Bissell makes a smallish shampoo machine called Green Machine – you can get it in Walmart, Lowes, Target, etc.
It’s about 95.- but absolutely steams and removes all pet odors when you use the liquid cleaner made for Pet Stains.
We’ve used it now for several years, it is perfect for the job, light, and small enough to handle easily. Gets the stain completely out and neutralizes the odor so the dogs don’t go back to the spot. Worth every penny it costs.

We have a hoover carpet cleaner and the solution that came with it took care of our dog stain from he was a puppy.
You can buy one of those small carpet cleaners for pets to take care of the spots instead of an entire room or house.

Assuming you already have a shampooer, I use this Bissell shampoo. I also use nature’s miracle on every spot. it seems to work well.
Good luck

Do not use every day carpet cleaners or bleach. Do not use steam either. It only makes the urine adhere to the carpet fibers. The best thing to do is buy or rent a carpet scrubber. Go over the carpet first with plain water. Go to the pet store and buy a urine remover. These products actually degrade the the urine in the carpet. Put this into the cleaning machine and go over the carpet again. I use Petzyme from Petsmart. I have found it to be the most effective for the cost. You can also buy a black light. If you shine it on the carpet, it will highlight pet stains, and you can concentrate the cleaner on that spot.
However, if you have let this carpet be peed on continually over the last year, it may be too late. The urine probably has soaked into the padding. If you have used other cleaners, you may have set the urine stains permanently. The urine in the carpet has most likely turned the spare room into your animals potty room. The smell is there, and they think it is where they are to go. This may be contributing to your trouble getting the dogs fully house trained.
I will include potty training tips as well. Some people attach a string of bells to their door and teach the dogs to paw at them as a way of saying I want out. House training a dog can be frustrating. However, here is the best advice I can offer. Tether training is by far the quickest way to house train. You tether the dog to your belt by its leash. It follows you everywhere. When it squats to pee, immediately take it out. When it goes outside make a big deal with lots of praise, clapping, and a treat. The dog will learn quickly to go out. Get them on a schedule. At first, take the dog out every 20 minutes and increase the time. Always take them out 20 minutes after eating.
You can also crate train. The crate should be only big enough for the dog to stand and turn around in, otherwise it will potty in one part of the crate and lay in another. Dogs naturally do not want o potty in their sleeping area, so it will start holding itself until you let it out of its crate, provided it is on a schedule. And remember, do not crate your dog all the time. They need exercise and social interaction. They cannot be locked up all the time.

You can get a spot bot from bissel for treating small spots one at a time or the upright carpet cleaners they have work pretty well also… just don’t get the cheap ones… I think $189 was how much I paid for mine.
You’d be surprised how dirty your carpets get after a few months.

Well, I found that the cleaning and shampooing products on the market are full of nothing, save for Pro Carpet Cleaners. I have a Border Collie who is turning 17 this year and she has had a few accidents in the last year and I rent a place that had brand new wall to wall off white carpeting!
I use luke warm water and a clean rag to dab it in, over and over until I have much of “whatever” out, then I get some cold water and another clean rag and then a drop of dish-washing soap, scrubbing it in a circular motion, and use a scrub brush type thing for extra hard to get out stuff, then always keep rinsing rag and refreshing the bucket with clean water for a good rinsing.
You can buy “pee pads” for dogs at most pet stores. They are about 2 foot square and are a godsend for my old girl, and my new carpet.
Good Luck and I feel your pain.
Peace:)
