dog section: ringworm?
BySo yesterday at the shelter, I was forced to deal with ringworm at the shelter.
A whole litter of bloodhound/mastiff pups and a few other pups that were in foster with them
What does ringworm look like on a human?
And how fast does it show up?
And if I have it…how do I avoid passing it on to my dogs and cats?
I am itchy, and I have a few patches of rough, itchy skin, as well as random bumps on my legs
Is this ringworm?
Or is it a mind over matter thing?
Also, for those of you who have dealt with it,
What is it like?

Note: Some of the picts are quite gross
Keep the area covered and don’t let you’re animals near that spot on you if you have it. If you do have it I would go to the doctor to see if they can prescribe something to you to clear it up.

it can take awhile to show up. usually it is like a big reddish circle. sometimes it has really small blisters that release a liquid, and it itches extremely bad. if you think you have an affected area you should hav e a doctor check it out and then use an antifungal cream and keep it covered when your pets might get in contact with it. Also use soap and water to wash your hands after touching it and try to not itch it.

Ringworm is highly contagious. Any animal with ringworm should be handled with nitrile gloves. So should all of their possessions; bedding, collars, etc.
It looks like a circular rash on the skin that may appear as an itchy, red, flaky patch. The center of the circular rash heals first, leaving the ring of redness on the outside; hence its name. Ringworm can also appear on the scalp as a flaky patch of baldness.
Ringworm is contagious (spread to others) through direct contact with an infected person or animal. It can also be spread indirectly through contact with the clothes, combs, or brushes of others who have it. Once treatment has begun and the circular rash begins to shrink, the rash won’t be contagious. Until then, however, a person with ringworm can spread it to others.
Ringworm isn’t actually a worm but a fungal (yeast) infection. You can get over the counter medication from your pharmacist to treat it but you’ll have to wash all your sheets, clothing you’ve touched and contaminated, etc.
Scalp Ringworm usually appears 10 to 14 days after contact, and Ringworm of the skin 4 to 10 days after contact. The time between exposure and symptoms is not known for the other types of Ringworm.
