HELP! I think my dog has ringworm or lyme disease maybe? PICTURE LINK!?

By

I was rubbing my dogs belly today and noticed a bunch of circular red spots with small dark dots in the middle. I live in the woods and at one point found a tick on him that I pulled out (Yes I got the head) but then when I called the vet to set up his appointment for today to get it looked at they said it might be ringworm (his last wormer was beginning of last month so he is due for another). He’s a 2 year old dachshund. Our roommates dog had worms but never had red spots or anything so I don’t think if it is worms its the same kind.

Anyone had this problem?!

Ringworm is not resolved with a regualr oral wormer…it is usually a topical cream applied to the affected areas.

As for the Lyme disease, your vet can help you with that one.

ALSO: VERY IMPORTANT: if your dog has ringworm and you pet him you MUST WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY! ringworm can be passed to humans. Don’t rub your eyes, nose, or mouth, touch food, or any other person until your hands have been washed with antibacterial soap and hot water.

The bulls eye rash that is common in people who are bitten by a tick carrying Lyme Disease, is not so common in dogs. Some dogs do get a red rash, but not all.

This could be ringworm, which is a fungus, not a worm. Intestinal parasite dewormer doesn’t treat ringworm, a different medication is needed. In case this is ringworm, don’t touch it, wash your hands well. It is transmissible to people.

I have a 8 month old Yorkie. He has the same problem but the rings go away at night and they don’t seem to bother him. I thought maybe ring worm (which isn’t really a worm its a fungal skin infection) But it is contagious to humans. He has had 3 ticks already on him this year. So I thought maybe lyme. But he just got a lyme titer so I thought maybe it was a reaction so we called the vet and the vet said it could just be a reaction to a black fly bite. My dog is up-to-date on his dewormer pill but the pill doesn’t cover ringworm it just covers intestinal worms. If it is ringworm there are some home remedies to use: apple cider vinegar, athlete foot cream, iodine or coconut oil are just a few. I have been google-ing it all day and I think I’m just going to see what happens. Hopefully it will go away on its own. I hope this helped good luck.
