Dog coat clipped too short. Should I apply something to protect her skin?
ByMy mother’s first at home grooming of my black toy poodle has turned out a disaster! She clipped her way too short and uneven. In addition she has several spots that expose her skin. Is there anything I should be applying to protect her skin?

I would go to a groomer and a vet for opinions, but next time, i would go to a groomer…

If she is not out in the sun excessively she should be fine.
Look at show poodles, their whole rear end is clipped bald and we have no problems.
She may get clipper rash which will make her itch and her skin may go red.
You can get a antiseptic cream from your vets to help ease the itching.

Other than a doggy sunscreen I wouldn’t apply anything as it would get licked off. You can put a t-shirt on dog when outdoors to protect from sun & bugs. There are very good reasons groomers charge for their work like know-how & pricey equipment.

No you shouldn’t have to apply anything. Just don’t allow her to stay out in the sun too long. If you notice any dryness maybe allow a little aloe vera lotion.

Not a problem her hair will grow, show dogs are clipped to the skin and as long as they are not out in the hot sun, it is not an issue.
Go buy some Aqueous cream ( very cheap from the chemist) it is cream that they use in the burns units in hospitals, no additives in it and safe for dogs, it will stop any itching she may have.
Two of my poodles are close show clipped ready for a show tomorrow.

Take him to a groomer to help correct the problem and ask if it needs anything applied. But I would keep the poor thing out of the sun till his fur grows back.
And tell your mom to let the groomers always cut his fur. It does not cost that much.
