What do you suggest for hairball control?
ByCarter is a medium length, we brush him daily, and still throws up a hairball every night. Not something that is fun to come down to in the morning. We have tried vaseline and oil for home remedies. Still on hairball clean up first thing in my day. Until we can get to the vet, does anyone have something they would suggest? We would be fine with over the counter stuff, not just home remedies.
He is supposed to be on hairball control cat food which helps, but he eats the kitten’s food instead.
I am mostly interested in specific names remedies, like what has worked for you.

You can purchase products at the pet store to aid in eliminating them. A good product is called laxatone and should be available at any of the bigger pet stores.

I have 2 long hair cats and the hairballs are the worst. i use “Hairball Solution” a brownish gel that comes in a tube. I think it’s chicken or fish flavored. I got it at Petco. I put a pebble size amount on my finger and then put it on my cat’s front paw. They lick it off and presto….. hairball free for a while. I use this every month or so. It really helps. Good luck!

Hairballs come out of either opening. It’s normal, but you can help control it. The dry food you purchase, make shure it helps with hair balls. Laxatone is fine, it helps.
If he still throws up hairballs regularly, check with the vet, he might have a sensitive stomach and you will have to adjust the food.

There are a couple things you can try. One, is to give the cat a combination of dry food, lots of water, and some canned mixed in. Make sure it comes out rather soupy. This may help. I don’t really purchase any specific food, but mixing it together helps, some. Another thing I found to be helpful, was the following: I found that our cats were bothering my plants a lot. I though they must need some greenery, but they never touched the things I would buy from the pet store for this. I finally purchased a plant that a cat I had owned may years ago, had really liked to snack on: Dracania. I think it is also called Dragon Plant. Now, they nibble on this plant and don’t seem to have hairball problems. I think it is similar in composition to grass. You could consult with your vet to be sure your own vet will assure you that this plant is O.K., but it worked for me. The cats seem to like the fact that they have their own plant. Check with your vet.
